Federal Lake City IR Dim Tracer M276 ammunition provides the Gunner with a tracer cartridge which is invisible when viewed with the naked eye but is visible when viewed through NVDs and does not cause visual interference to the wearer of a night vision device. IR Tracer ammunition was designed for night operations, granting the combat forces a stealth advantage. The bullet trace is completely invisible to the naked eye and only visible with the use of Night Vision Devices (NVDs). The technology gives the gunner higher engagement effectiveness since the target visualization is not obscured by the halo effect. Manufactured with a propellant that virtually eliminates muzzle flash, it allows a tactical upper hand by keeping the shooter’s position unexposed. The trace performance is achieved due to a special tracer composition that keeps the wavelength emission within the IR spectrum, therefore visible only through NVDs. Lake city production headstamps from 07-2010 era. This has been tested and shoots fantastic...exactly as intended.

The M276 has a 146.5 grain projectile with a lavender tip. This cartridge has a pyrotechnic charge which permits observation of the round's trajectory to approximately 775m, and reduces the possibility of locating the weapon when paired with night vision devices. The M276 is a violet-tipped 7.62×51mm NATO dim tracer that uses composition R 440, which is barium peroxide, strontium peroxide, calcium resinate for example calcium abietate, and magnesium carbonate. Tracer compositions can also emit primarily in infrared, for use with night-vision devices. An example composition is boron, potassium perchlorate, sodium salicylate, iron carbonate or magnesium carbonate (as combustion retardant), and binder

This brass is manufactured on mil-spec production lines which require evidence of the annealing process be left on the brass near the neck of the casing often referred to as the iris. This is the darker residue that is visually noticeable around the case neck. Both commercial and mil-spec brass undergoes this same annealing process which make the brass stronger and less brittle. The annealing process essentially runs the brass through a series of flames which heat the brass having the effect of re-strengthening it in its final shape. Unlike commercial brass products, there is no need to make it appear pretty, so they forgo the secondary polishing. Military requirements on the other hand require that evidence of the annealing process remain on the brass.

This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases.
