This XM118 ammo is manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) and is designed for super accurate, very long range shots from your 7.62x51mm chambered rifle. Each round is loaded with a 175 grain hollow point boat tail (HPBT) OTM projectile. Delivering pinpoint long distance accuracy, these projectiles leave the muzzle at a screaming velocity of 2580 feet per second. They are also NON MAGNETIC, and fully jacketed with no exposed lead at the base.
The ammo is considered military seconds, however it is still just as accurate and reliable. Let us explain. Military specifications are very stringent and if just a few samples out of a batch fail to meet specifications, the entire lot is sold to the commercial market as seconds. This presents an incredible deal to shooters, who then get to benefit from the huge production scale of our military.
This brass is manufactured on mil-spec production lines which require evidence of the annealing process be left on the brass near the neck of the casing often referred to as the iris. This is the darker residue that is visually noticeable around the case neck. Both commercial and mil-spec brass undergoes this same annealing process which make the brass stronger and less brittle. The annealing process essentially runs the brass through a series of flames which heat the brass having the effect of re-strengthening it in its final shape. Unlike commercial brass products, there is no need to make it appear pretty, so they forgo the secondary polishing. Military requirements on the other hand require that evidence of the annealing process remain on the brass.
This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases.
